One of our co-productions, Epilogues, directed by Ari Alexander Ergis Magnússon, recently premiered at the Vilnius International Film Festival, where he sat down for an interview with Cineuropa.

The interview dives into the deeply personal inspiration behind Epilogues. The film was sparked by a conversation with his 86-year-old mother, who spoke about the isolation of outliving the closest people in her life. This led Magnússon to explore themes of death, memory, and loneliness through Guðbergur Bergsson’s novel, which he adapted for the screen.

Additionally, Magnússon discusses how death remains a cultural taboo, something people often avoid addressing directly, even though it’s an inevitable part of life.
