Ancient cultural norms on the Indonesian island of Sumba result in the Ata community being expected to work as slaves for the Maramba people. Activist Jeremy Kewuan sets out to combat this slave trade and comes upon an enslaved eight-year-old girl. With the help of a woman who was once forced into slavery herself, Kewuan rails against the system.
SUPPORT THE CAUSE
Slave Island intends to go beyond the cinema room and bring impact to Sumbanese people. We want to support a new generation of youth from Sumba, so they can have the resources and influence to challenge the deeply entrenched caste system. By fostering awareness, education, and advocacy, the campaign seeks to break the cycle of servitude and build a future where no child is born into slavery.
