We are Excited to announce that Slave island will be screened at the upcoming Millenium Festival in Brussels.

28 Mar / 19:15 in UGC Toison d’Or, Brussels

29 Mar / 18:30 in UGC Cinema’s, Antwerpen

The documentary reveals the existence of modern slavery on the island of Sumba, Indonesia. While investigating a case of human trafficking, local activist Jeremy Kewuan meets a Maramba chaman who firmly believes in his ancestral right to own slaves. Then appears an 8-year-old enslaved girl. After countless clashes with slavers and tribal leaders, Jeremy finally manages to secure the young girl’s freedom. A small victory in the constant battle against abuse.

SUPPORT THE CAUSE

Slave Island intends to go beyond the cinema room and bring impact to Sumbanese people. We want to support a new generation of youth from Sumba, so they can have the resources and influence to challenge the deeply entrenched caste system. By fostering awareness, education, and advocacy, the campaign seeks to break the cycle of servitude and build a future where no child is born into slavery.
